Keepsake [COMIC/1988.8.11]
★★☆☆☆
Rather sadly, this is one of those Doctor Who stories I have precious little to talk about. The entire strip is geared for the purpose of introducing a recurring character in the Death's Hand series, Keepsake, and it serves its purpose succintly. The scavenger is shown to have questionable morals on the surface, but a heart (maybe not one of gold, but a beating heart nonetheless) inside that wouldn't allow him to ditch the Doctor as he saves those in need against vicious indigenous folk of the planet of Ryos.
Unfortunately, the singular focus on Keepsake means that the Doctor takes the role of something akin to an extended cameo, simply there to fix things up and bring out core characteristics of the main character (who, for once, isn't the intrepid Time Lord). The narrative doesn't help matters by being nothing more than a simple placeholder, a rudimentary structure.

I wouldn't call this terrible by any means... just very bland. There is, of course, one panel that I enjoyed quite a lot, namely the one where the Seventh Doctor clutches his hat while being chased by the indigenous militia. That's the Doctor in a nutshell, if you ask me.
