★★★☆☆
Uroboros, more than anything, proves that the Doctor's greatest weakness is also his most formidable strength. His friends are what he holds most dear, and he would do anything to keep them safe; endanger and hurt them, however, and he would go to the deepest pits of hell to bring them back to safety. The Eighth Doctor here is not the usual jovial traveller; he's a driven, hardened individual who has set his sights only on Izzy Sinclair's safety, and he won't suffer fools gladly while he's at it. He spares no niceties for Fey when she arrives, instead getting to the business of talking directly to Shayde. When he meets Destrii (at this point still in possession of Izzy's body), he becomes a cold individual who's barely controlling his rage, mixed with sorrow for his friend's fate. It makes for quite an intense reading experience, if anything.
Uroboros is a big-scale comic, bringing back the giant technorganic ship Ophidius and presenting it again as a giant, ruthless destroying machine. The central narrative in itself is eye-catching, with John Ross's illustrations never failing to catch my interest from beginning to end, but it is the emotional journey of the Doctor and his vendetta to save Izzy that makes the adventure that much more engaging. I cannot wait for Oblivion.

No matter how much of a sly criminal Destrii is, I cannot bring myself to outright dislike her. Such was the intent, it seems, given that she gets the most sparkling lines (at one point, she likens the Ophidius rampage to something out of Toho Studios). There's a spark of morality in her, as she coaxes the giant ship to cease attacking the Mobox (although under duress). It's also cute, in a way, how unapologetically attracted she is to Eight. She even gets to kiss him in this comic, with a ripped and scantily dressed Izzy body to show off to boot. As I said, she's the kind of cute-but-deadly anti-hero that you wouldn't expect from something associated with Doctor Who of all franchises... but she absolutely works.
