Thinktwice [COMIC/2008.9.18 ~ 11.13]
★★★☆☆
Majenta Pryce is such a fascinating companion, and in general a pretty great character. Her relationship with the Doctor is different from many others of her basic mould, as her predicament prior to becoming a wayfarer in the TARDIS was a direction result of the Doctor's interference. Out of many things that it's about, Thinktwice works best as a (highly dramatised) look into consequences -- something surprisingly rare in Doctor Who as of yet -- and it's all the more rewarding for being so. Add a corrupt penal system in space, alien brain/memory leeches and the Doctor posing as an undercover medic on top of that juicy consequence business, and you've got yourself a pretty packed three-part comic adventure.
Thinktwice is yet another great story that utilises its own comic medium, jumping in and out of multiple characters' backstories to paint a bigger picture. The Memeovax are hideous creatures, brought to life by Martin Geraghty's utterly talented hands, and Dr. Gripton is a nasty piece of work as well. It plays into the trope of 'the Doctor overloading memory-leeching enemies' capacities by literally having too many memories for them to consume properly' and it gets away with it because it fits with the plot. It introduces Magenta Pryce again and gives her even more of an arresting presence (not that she wasn't just as entertaining in Hotel Historia). What more could you want from a comic like this? Thinktwice succeeds in giving readers a fascinating trail of character development to follow, and also provides a really fun story. I don't know about anyone else, but I just really like it when characters from light-hearted stories are brought back for a much more serious and higher-stakes scenario.
